WHAT DO I NEED TO APPLY?

When you apply, you’ll be asked questions about what problems you’re experiencing at work and what help you need.
You’ll also need:

  • your National Insurance number
  • your workplace address, including your postcode
  • the name, email address and work phone number of a workplace contact, for example your manager
  • your UTR number (if you are self-employed)
  • the name of your New Enterprise Allowance mentor (if you have one)

How can you help me?

I am passionate about the benefits, unique skills and strengths that people with ADHD can bring to the workplace, but these are often undervalued, under-utilised and overshadowed by our challenges.

Other people's perception of our ability is so often defined by our challenges, not by our strengths, leaving us at much higher risk of being under-employed or unemployed. Job hopping and lack of job security are common experiences.

Access To Work funding can really help you to stay in work and overcome the challenges you face in the workplace.

I CAN HELP YOU IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:

Job coaching helps develop effective strategies to overcome challenges in the workplace:

  • Overcome procrastination and get into action
  • Take control of your 'to-do' list with effective planning & prioritisation
  • Learn how to stop the overwhelm & make effective decisions
  • Improve your time management, meet deadlines & achieve goals
  • Calm the anxiety, build confidence & manage your emotions

Awareness training creates better understanding of ADHD & helps you get support at work:

  • Informs colleagues about neurodiversity & it’s impact at work
  • Creates awareness of how to support a colleague with ADHD
  • Covers employer's legal obligations under the 2010 Equality Act
  • Evidences benefits neurodiverse people bring to the workplace
  • Demonstrates the importance of neuro-inclusive workplaces

Access To Work funding can be a lifeline, but the application process is not ADHD friendly!

  • Get help to complete the online application form
  • Get help to identify & describe the challenges you’re facing at work
  • Ask for the right kind of support to help with your specific challenges
  • Get ongoing support through the assessment process
  • Get help to put in place the support once it's approved

Frequently Asked Questions

No.

If you have realised you have ADHD and are experiencing challenges at work that are typical of those faced by someone with ADHD, you would be eligible for funding.

However, you are required to attest to the information you provide on your application.

Paid employment can be full or part-time and can include:

  • employment
  • self-employment
  • an apprenticeship
  • a work trial or work experience
  • an internship a work placement

You cannot get Access to Work support for voluntary work.

You must:

  • already be doing paid work
  • be about to start work or become self-employed
  • have an interview for a job
  • a work trial or work experience
  • be about to begin a work trial or start work experience under the Youth Contract arranged through Jobcentre Plus

You may also get it if you are getting New Enterprise Allowance.

If you’re a civil servant, you need to contact your employer directly as they will provide support instead of Access to Work.

Currently, the application process is taking 4-6 months from submission to approval of the funding.

Yes, though with the current 4-6 month time being taken to process applications, you may need help sooner. Please book a free call and we can talk about how I could support you at work in the meantime.

Yes. You have to give the contact details of a member of staff. This may be your line manager or a member of the HR team.

They may have to make a contribution towards the costs of your support. There is a sliding scale depending on the number of employees.

Employer will usually fund:

  • 100% of costs up to the threshold

Access To Work will usually fund:

  • 80% of costs above the threshold, up to £10,000 and
  • 100% of costs above £10,000

The following thresholds apply:

  • 0-49 employees: Threshold = £0, therefore employer contribution = £0
  • 50-249 employees: Minimum threshold = £500 & Maximum threshold =£10,000. Therefore maximim employer contribution = £2,400 (£500 up to minimum threshold plus 20% of £9,500)
  • Over 250 employees: Minimum threshold = £1,000 & Maximum threshold =£10,000. Therefore maximum employer contribution = £2,800 (£1,000 up to minimum threshold plus 20% of £9,000)

If you are claiming Universal Credit and have a disability or health condition, you will be able to apply for Access to Work for any paid work you do.

You might not get Access to Work if you get any of these benefits:

  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Income Support
  • National Insurance credits

However, you may get it for a limited time if you are doing certain types of ‘permitted work’ to help you move off benefits completely.
